The Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, addressed the Turkish parliament on Thursday, a speech scheduled by Turkey's leadership after the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, made a speech to a joint session of US congress. Abbas told Turkish MPs that he intended to visit Gaza, and that the Middle East would not enjoy stability until a Palestinian state that incorporated Gaza, the West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem was recognised.
