Michael Acire was abducted by the Lord’s Resistance armed group at the age of 10 and forced to fight for 13 years before escaping. His story, from Gulu in Northern Uganda, details his abduction in May 1995, when he surrendered to save his stepmother during a rebel raid. He was taken to South Sudan after nearly a year in Uganda. Acire was injured in his first battle and spent time in a sick bay for wounded fighters. Reflecting on Thomas Kwoyelo, a jailed LRA leader, Acire expresses hope for leniency, understanding the shared suffering and forced actions in captivity.
