COP16 biodiversity summit signs agreement to grant Indigenous groups a permanent voice

After two weeks of negotiations, countries at the COP16 biodiversity summit in Colombia have agreed to establish a permanent body for indigenous peoples.
The historic decision will allow them to participate in future decisions, on nature conservation and rules on the use of genetic information.
But the summit fell short on another key issue – a funding plan to conserve nature.
Wildlife populations have already declined by nearly 70 percent over the past 50 years.
Experts say the numbers will continue to plummet unless humans get involved.

Al Jazeera’s Alessandro Rampietti reports from the meeting in Cali.
